New and Developing Technologies for Genetic Diagnostics '08

Attendance

Over the two days the meeting was attended by 126 delegates with representatives from diagnostics, research and the various sponsoring companies. In total 47 feedback forms were returned. Many delegates defined their role as both diagnostics and research – for simplicity these have been listed under diagnostics for the chart below.

Feedback

Delegates were asked to rate each session in terms of both relevance and interest on a scale of 1 to 5 (poor > excellent). The respondents and their responses are summarised below

General comments

Thank you to all those who provided feedback this will be helpful in planning of future meetings.

"Excellent, well balanced meeting – good range of speakers. Very nice venue for evening ’do’ and good food.”

Some specific comments about…

Facilities:
"Catering facilities / exhibition space a bit cramped!”
Response: This meeting was at the limit of our capacity – we will think carefully about have this can be improved next time. On the other side of the coin we have many verbal comments that the limited space added to the cosiness / friendly atmosphere of the meeting.

"Lecture theatre was a bit chilly at times.”
Response: We do our best!

"Coffee at lunch to keep awake?!”
Response: We thought the presentations were sufficiently interesting to do this! – but fair comment.

Programme:
“ Too technical in some talks (cytogenetics particularly).”

“Expand section on acquired abnormalities.”
Response: Formulating a programme is a difficult balance - in general we feel the diverse disciplines in genetic diagnostics received reasonable weighting.

Documentation:
“ It would be very helpful to have all talks available online.”
Response: Agenda and talks

Buffet super:
“ Not enough seats at evening dinner.”
Response: This was noted by a number of people – we will certainly try to address this next time

Advertising / invitations:
“ Cytogenetics colleagues did not get invitation!”
Response: There were no specific invitations – the meeting was advertised via the NGRL contact list, the BSHG newsletter and various other routes. If you you would like to be added to the NGRL contact list please send an email to listserv@listserv.manchester.ac.uk quoting "subscribe ngrl" in the message body.

Transport
“ Transport may have been useful e.g. coaches for town centre/station.”
Response: We felt that Salisbury is small enough to permit easy use of the public transport system and/or taxis. Obviously providing transport would add considerably to costs, but we will bear it in mind for next time.
