Gen2Phen

NGRL Manchester is one of 19 partners from Europe, South Africa and India in the Gen2Phen project, which is a large-scale EU Framework 7 Programme. The Project seeks to integrate genotype and phenotype database resources, and to link this system into other biomedical knowledge sources via genome browser functionality.

The project will establish the technological building-blocks needed for the evolution of the current Gen2Phen databases into a future seamless Gen2Phen biomedical knowledge environment. The global network of bioinformatics GRID-linked databases, tools and standards, will all be tied into the Ensembl genome browser.

NGRL Manchester is collaborating with the other partners on the following project components:

  • Developing and executing a pilot project to gather the requirements of the genetics and genomics community and to evaluate the outputs of the Gen2Phen project.
  • Developing gene locus-specific database applications and moving data from the diagnostic community into these public resources.
  • Developing search and display options for clinical users of genotype-to-phenotype databases.
  • Developing population, curation and quality control methods for databases created within the project.
  • Domain analysis, data model development and terminology development from the diagnostic genetic community perspective.
